SPRING IS HERE

Although there still is a bit of chill in the air, nevertheless the sun is out shininh bright on Cape Cod and SPRING is officially here today on March 20, 2013. Besides saying goodbye to the cold days, snow and putting away the heavy sweaters and bulky jackets, the start of Spring on Cape Cod brings along the start of many events & activities to look forward too. In Spring the scenery can be just as stunning as summertime, and there are plenty of fun things to do and places to dine and shop.

A few places opening in Spring:

There’s just something so beachside summer vacation about mini-golf. Cape Cod has scads of courses and Pirate’s Cove is one of the most popular with its splashing water falls and sculpted ‘mountains’.Children between the ages of 3-10 are the perfect age for this thrillseeking, treasure hunting voyage into Hyannis Harbor. Once aboard the Sea Gypsu every child will be transformed into an official member of the Sea Gypsy Crew. With painted faces and donned sashes your little mate will be ready for adventure aboard our working pirate ship. The Activity is nonstop, with flags to hoist , water cannons to blast, and maps to read, there is no time for lolligagin!Take your kids on an old-fashioned, swashbuckling adventure they’ll be spinning yarns about for years to come, Open Memorial Day. 728 Route 28, South Yarmouth; 508-394-6200 or 508-394-5252.
Already in existence when the Cape Cod National Seashore was created, Art’s was grandfathered and they’re now the only ones allowed to drive in several protected Provincetown beach areas. Take the one hour tour along the coast and into the spectacular dunes or go with the sunset tour or a clambake, a lighthouse tour or a surf-fishing tour. Rates start at $25 for adults and $17 for kids. Offered mid-April through Halloween. Visit www.artsdunetours.com for details. 4 Standish St., Provincetown; 508-487-1950.
Sure, the Cape is known for its exceptional seafood, but wine? This local vineyard proves that our sandy peninsula has got the goods to both dine and wine. Several varietals, ranging from Nobska Red (a Cabernet blend) to a delicious Cranberry Chardonnay, are produced from the estate-grown grapes. Stop in any time for tastings, May through December, or a tour of the winery on Saturdays at 2:00 p.m. in the summer months. 681 Sandwich Rd., East Falmouth; 508-457-5592.
Anybody will be sure to enjoy a ride aboard this traveling ode to history. Trips range from the two-hour scenic excursion to the three-hour elegant dinner train. The Pilgrims first landed in the New World in 1620 at Provincetown, as this 252 foot-tall granite tower so loftily reminds us. A museum at the base of the monument offers exhibits about building the monument and Provincetown history. Open daily, April through November. The 38,000-square-foot golf course is a nod to the Swiss Family Robinson, with features like a large tree house, 20 waterfalls and 25 fountains. Open April 1st to October. Prices vary. 934 Route 28, South Yarmouth; 508-398-6070.

The trail has a wide unpaved shoulder on one side to accommodate horseback riding, walkers, and runners. There are many opportunities to get off the trail and visit a beach. Food and water are also readily available and public restrooms can be found at Nickerson State Park, Salt Pond Visitors Center at Cape Cod National Seashore and the National Seashore Headquarters. If you do not have a bike, bike rentals are available at many points along the way. For people with disabilities, a limited number of hand-cycles are available for rent at specific bike concessions. Employee Appreciation Day

"No business achieves success without the help of their team of employees.
They are the ones who make the success possible."

We are truly grateful and appreciative for our team here at the Lighthouse Inn, and certainly recognize the hard work they put in every year. We have a mix of seasonal employees, who work during the season from May to October, as well as a select few who are working diligently year round, preparing for each upcoming season. We certainly could not do without everyone, working together towards the same goal of 'providing the best hospitality to our guests and patrons'.

Take the time to give recognition and show appreciation towrds your team,
whether in a big or small way....
A simple goes a long way....

Ever wonder when Employee Appreciation Day began? Employee Appreciation Day first arrived on calendars in 1995. A Recognition Professionals International’s founding Board member, together with his publishing company, Workman Publishing, created Employee Appreciation Day as a way of focusing the attention of all employers, in all industries on employee recognition. It is always the first Friday in March.

To our fantastic previous & present employees over the past 75 years of service.... Thank you from The Lighthouse Inn

ASPCA Thanksgiving Safety Tips

According to The ASPCA, the Sage in stuffing is delicious for humans. For our pets, however, the essential oils and resins can cause gastrointestinal issues and central nervous system depression.

While our own, Lighthouse Inn housedog Riptide, has always been food-motivated he understands that pets and their humans need to heed the warning “ Do not to overindulge”, a taste of gravy is fine for your pet but sticking to the normal diet for your pet through the holidays is best.
Happy Holidays for all!

Hurricane Sandy on Cape Cod

Cape Cod was battered by high winds and a strong coastal surge on Monday morning as Hurricane Sandy made landfall in New Jersey. As of early Monday afternoon nearly 20,000 Cape Codders were without power, The noon high tide brought severe beach erosion to Falmouth and the east facing beaches on the Outer Cape.Later in the day, Nstar reported nearly 38,000 customers without power with the towns of Barnstable and Falmouth being the hardest hit communities. We were very lucky through this one though, as the Lighthouse Inn seemed to have came out unscathed through it all. As the waves crashed against West Dennis Beach and Weir Creek crossed over Lighthouse Road, thankfully only minimal damage was experienced in the immediate area. As for some of our neighboring towns, unfortunately flooded roads from the tide, fallen branches, damage to ramps, houses and structures along with the overwhelming amount of power outages, proved to be a ominous way to bring in Halloween on Cape Cod. However, as Governor Deval Patrick said today he was relieved that the state escaped serious damage from Hurricane Sandy, stating“We are very, very fortunate indeed. ” Reliefs efforts to those affected by the Hurricane specifically in New Jersey and New York continue.

Another season has come and gone

Another season has come and gone in the blink of a eye here at Lighthouse Inn. Our great team of employees work hard at the end of each season, closing up the Waterfront Restaurant, kitchen, Bars, accommodations & Front Desk. Everyone pitches in and gets majority done after our last breakfast on Columbus Day. With the melody of music playing & laughter amongst each other, our employees have fun while getting the job done. Mixed emotions of excitement for their next step whether that be going back home to a differant country, back to school or to the next seasonal job, it is still bitter sweet to say our goodbyes. Year after year we have the pleasure to appreciate the time spent together, and learn from the differant backgrounds, interests & personalities of the many employees. Its more than a team, we form a family here at the Lighthouse Inn, and although some do return for multiple years, one season is never the same as the next, which is one of the reasons we always enjoy the time working side by side. Approaching our 75th anniversary in 2013, we want to thank the employees throughout the years. Undoubtedly it would be impossible with out them.
